This is where Winchester Choir sits within the Cathedral. These wooden choir stalls date from 1308, and are made of Norwegian oak because English oak at that time was being heavily used for shipbuilding.

They look might strong but mighty small and uncomfortable. I suppose the choir prefers to sing standing.

I was sat in those stalls next to the choir nearly every evening for 4 years, as my son was a chorister there. They aren't too uncomfortable!
ReplyDeleteThe music is wonderful and the atmosphere so peaceful. I miss it hugely - although my son had had enough of it by the time he left!
Oh that's marvellous, it must have been great to have been part of it!
ReplyDeleteNot on a cold dark Tuesday night in February when there were only six of us in the congregation! But yes, although it was quite an exhausting time, it was very special. Plus it meant that I could park in the cathedral Close!
